The Pileated Woodpecker Nestbox (also for Kestrels and Screech Owls) has a 10" by 10" floor, 24" inside ceiling, 4" diameter entrance hole located 21" above the floor and ventilation openings.  Assembled with screws.  Hinged roof is secured with shutter hooks for easy access.

For Pileated Woodpeckers, have a professional mount this box with the entrance hole facing south or east, 20 feet or higher on a tree in forest edge,or grove.

Pilleated Woodpeckers commonly excavate their own cavities.  Fill this box full of wood chips.

Squirrels may also use this nestbox.

Safety First

1) Fasten Right Side to Back Panel with screws. 2) Fasten Floor to Right Side and Back 3) Fasten Left Side to Back Panel and Floor. 4) Fasten Front Panel.

5) Fasten Hinges to Roof with Small Screws 6) Fasten Roof and Hinges to Back Panel. 7) Fasten Shutter Hooks to Roof and Sides with Round-head Screws 8) Mount Nestbox with Large Screws at appropriate Height. (see specific species mounting height and habitat.)
